Orchard House Community Centre

Orchard House is a garden pavilion, with two wings looking onto the two main lawns at Nutley Hall, a residential community for people with special needs.

The building is built entirely of timber and is clad with unfinished cedar. These materials and its sculptural form give the building the character of a garden pavillion within the Nutley Hall grounds, appropriate to its purpose as a special place for the community of residents and staff to come together.

The building is highly insulated and is heated by a small high - efficiency boiler.

Orchard House is designed in collaboration with Nicolas Pople.
This community-based arts centre is housed in a Grade 2 Listed Building in the centre of Stroud. Originally a Temperance Hall, the building lends itself well to conversion as a studio theatre / hall to accommodate a variety of events. The plans include a gallery, retractable seating and natural ventilation via wind towers. Work is carried out as funds become available.
